Manuka Honey Can Kill MRSA

Anyone who's skinned a knee, suffered a cut, or experienced a burn (which is pretty much everybody) will first react cleaning it, and then covering it to prevent infection. While some reach for the typical neo-sporin or other antibiotic to put on the wound, there are SEVERAL natural antibiotic treatments that are not only AS effective as over the counter treatments, they are MORE effective. A partial list is shown below...

  • Garlic

  • Various oils such as oregano, thyme, basil, lavender, tea tree

  • Olive leaf extract

  • Colloidal silver

For this article, however, we're focusing on Manuka Honey. Manuka honey is honey that is created by bees that pollinate the Manuka Bush out of New Zealand. Raw honey ( which is very different than the food you buy at the grocery store) contains (among other things) hydrogen peroxide which aids in it's antibiotic properties. Manuka honey, however, contains other factors not found in other types of honey that give it the special "X" factor that both accelerates tissue healing, and has very strong anti-microbial; so strong in fact that studies show that it can destroy MRSA. MRSA is a methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, is a type of staph infection that isn't affected by many common antibiotics. Unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly common in hospitals. Several research studies show that topical application of Manuka Honey can destroy the MRSA bacteria.
